Buying a Car.

Buying a car comes with a lot of questions. We’d rather answer them upfront than have you guessing. Here’s everything you need to know about buying from Budget Car Sales.

No booking needed. Just turn up at our Manukau or Takanini yards in South Auckland and our team will look after you. If you’d prefer to arrange a time in advance, give us a call or fill in the contact form on our contact page.

Yes. Come in, pick the car you’re interested in, and we’ll get you out on the road. Just bring your driver’s licence plus another form of ID.

350+ vehicles across our Manukau and Takanini yards in South Auckland. Stock changes regularly, so if you don’t see what you want online, call us – we might have it on the way in.

Two sources. NZ new cars – bought, sold, and serviced right here – and Japanese imports, which we source directly from Japan. Japanese imports go through full compliance before they arrive on our yard: border inspection, compliance certification, and WoF. They’re well-known for being well-maintained, low-mileage, and great value. Our fresh imports are listed with +ORC – see below for what that covers.

Yes – online or by getting in touch with our team. A $300 online deposit gives you a priority hold and we remove the car from our stock straight away. One of the team will then get in touch to arrange a safe, unaccompanied test drive. If the car isn’t everything you expected, we’ll refund your full deposit – no questions asked.

Yes, and we’ll take any car. No inflated phone valuations to hook you in – just bring your car into one of our South Auckland yards and we’ll give you a fair appraisal based on real market rates. Your trade-in can go toward your next purchase or reduce your finance repayments.

Yes. We do it all the time. We’ll give you an honest, detailed description of the car, send through photos, arrange an independent inspection if you’d like one, and sort delivery through our trusted transport connections anywhere in New Zealand. See below for delivery costs.

Absolutely. If you want an independent mechanic to check the car over before you commit, we’ll make it happen. We’re happy for you to do your homework.

Less than you’d need to with a private sale. Every car on our yard comes with a current WoF, a clear title, and has been inspected before it hits the yard. We’re also a Registered Motor Vehicle Trader, so you’re protected by law. We always encourage a test drive too – the most important thing is that you’re happy with how it feels behind the wheel. Come in and ask us anything. That’s really all you need to do.

When you buy from us, we handle the paperwork. You’ll need a valid photo ID, and if you’re financing, we’ll let you know exactly what’s required. The ownership transfer is sorted before you drive away – no loose ends.

We deliver anywhere in New Zealand through our trusted transport partners. Here’s what it costs from our South Auckland yards:

  • Auckland to Whangarei — $595
  • Auckland to Tauranga — $550
  • Auckland to Hastings / Napier / Palmerston North — $795
  • Auckland to New Plymouth / Wellington — $750

The Car.

Transparency matters. Learn what you can expect from every vehicle we sell, including inspections, service history, WoF, registration, and any applicable On Road Costs.

Yes. Every vehicle goes through a thorough inspection before it hits our yard. All cars come with clear titles, and service history and owner’s manuals are included where available. We’re also a Registered Motor Vehicle Trader – so you’re covered by the protections that come with that.

We’re upfront about the history of every car we sell. If there’s anything worth knowing, we’ll tell you. We don’t hide things and hope you don’t notice.

It depends on the car. Our local used cars come with a current WoF and rego included in the price. For our fresh imports listed with +ORC, the On Road Costs fee covers a new WoF, number plates, 6 months registration, and a basic service. Either way, you drive away road-legal. Check the listing or ask our team if you’re unsure about a specific vehicle.

Some of our cars — our fresh imports — are listed with +ORC next to the price. This means an On Road Costs fee of $795 applies on top of the advertised price. It covers everything needed to get the car road-legal: a new Warrant of Fitness, number plates, 6 months registration, and a basic vehicle service. If a car doesn’t show +ORC, the price is drive-away. Not sure? Just ask.

Pricing &
Payment.

Whether you’re paying cash or financing your next vehicle, it’s important to know your options. Here are answers to the most common questions about pricing, payment methods, finance, and the ongoing costs of owning a car.

Our prices are set fairly from the start – no games, no inflated sticker prices. Come in and have a conversation with our team if you have questions about a specific vehicle.

It depends on the make, model, age, condition, and mileage. We price based on real market rates – not what we wish the car was worth. If you want to do your own research, sites like Trade Me Motors give you a good benchmark. We’re confident our prices stack up.

Depends on your situation. Cash means no interest, no ongoing payments, and you own it outright. Finance lets you get into a better car sooner and spread the cost over time. No deposit required – and we can discuss deferred repayment options too. Both are valid. Our finance team can walk you through the numbers so you can make the call that’s right for you – no pressure either way.

Beyond the purchase price, factor in: registration (rego), Warrant of Fitness (WoF), insurance, fuel, and regular servicing. Costs vary by vehicle – our team can help point you toward something that suits your budget to run, not just to buy.

Yes. Cash, bank transfer, or finance – whatever works for you. Talk to us about your preferred payment method when you’re ready.

Yes, and it’s all done in-house. No brokers, no middlemen. Our dedicated finance team works with a range of lenders to find an option that suits your situation. Head to our finance page for more info.

After
You Buy.

Buying your car is just the beginning. Learn what happens after the sale, including warranties, your rights as a buyer, ongoing support, and how we’re here to help long after you drive away.

Yes. We offer 1, 2, and 3-year mechanical warranties at competitive prices, along with insurance options for added peace of mind. Ask our team about what’s right for your situation.

When you buy from a Registered Motor Vehicle Trader (which we are) you’re protected under the Consumer Guarantees Act. That means the car needs to be of acceptable quality and fit for purpose. If something goes wrong that wasn’t disclosed, you have rights. We take this seriously. We’d rather sort any issue out than have a customer left unhappy.

Call us. We’re not the type to go quiet after the sale. Depending on the situation, your warranty cover, and the Consumer Guarantees Act, there are options. We’ll work through it with you.

We’ll take care of the paperwork and walk you through everything before you drive away. If anything comes up after the sale, give us a call – we’re not the type to disappear once the deal’s done.

Fair question. We’re a Registered Motor Vehicle Trader, every car comes with a clear title, and we’ve got 600+ five-star Google reviews from customers who loved the experience. Don’t just take our word for it — check them out below.

Call us, come in, or fill in the contact form. There’s always someone on hand at our Manukau and Takanini yards in South Auckland who can help. No pressure. Just straight answers.
